Ty Croeso is a day hospice based in Ystradgynlais. The doors are open to all sufferers of life threatening diseases and conditions. Abercrave County Primary School has three classes and teaches children between the ages of 5 and 11 years. Cor Meibion Ystradgynlais, Ystradgynlais Male Voice Choir, has a history going back to 1947 when a group of miners from the local Ynyscedwyn Colliery formed a choir to compete in the Miners' Eisteddfod. Cor-y-Gyrlais (The Gyrlais Choir) are based in Ystradgynlais and follow the long tradition of welsh male voice choral singing. Their musical director Meirwyn Thomas has lead them for over thirty years, during which time they have won National Eisteddfod honours. Ystalyfera Development Trust works with the WDA, NPTCBC, New Learning Network and DTA Wales to address the needs of the local community. It facilitates community capacity building programs and is a venue for discussion of local issues.
